Many years ago they were used in the winter for moving from one place to another or for any other task that involved walking in deep snow. Today the "ciaspole" or snow shoes have come back into vogue for sporting purposes and for fun. In fact they are a valid and functional system for moving in steep, woody zones where the use of skis would present problems. A good system for entering the soft white winter world to discover, with modern eyes, the world of the past. However, it is at night that the use of snow-shoes gives the strongest and most unexpected emotions. To follow a moonlit track is an adventure without parallel. This is the third time now that in Cogne we do a night competition with snow-shoes following the well known Marcia Granparadiso of cross- country ski in winter and with bicycle in summer.
